The Periyar Self- Respect Propaganda Institution (PSRPI) was registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, No. 13 of 1952. The trust was formed by Late Thanthai Periyar.

It is proposed to minimize the electric power consumption in this building by using LED lamps, solar water heater, Bio gas plant, proper solid waste management etc., aiming at zero waste and zero discharge.

On 6th January 1974, the Central Committee of Dravidar Kazhagam elected Mrs. Maniammai as the President of the movement. Mr.K.Veeramani continued to be the General Secretary.
